The Faulkner County Alzheimer's walks originated in 2006 at Toad Suck Park in Conway, Arkansas. Melissa Longing along with her Mother, Shirley Montgomery started the walk when her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Jim Montgomery was just fifty-nine years old when he was diagnosed. Jim lived for eight years with this dreadful disease, and passed away in 2003. The first walk in Jim's memory had 250 people in attendance with Coach Frank Broyles as honorary chairman.
In 2016, the 11th annual walk will be held at the arena once again on September 10th. If you would like to participate or volunteer, please contact us. Whether you would like to walk in memory or in support of someone, donate funds or your time, we welcome anyone to take part in our organization. |
